About

Dancing Through Words

Dancing Through Words; is a platform Annemarie created to promote the importance of children’s development of imagination through storytelling. Stories spark a child’s curiosity, and a good story transports a child to a new world. That is why in 2023 during Annemarie’s last year at UVA, she wrote her own story, My First Pañuelo. Her children’s book; is about Peru’s most famous dance, La Marinera Norteña. Dance has a language all of its own, and Annemarie used words to create a story about a young girl experiencing dance for the first time. For almost 20 years, Annemarie has been an Irish Dancer and a Peruvian Dancer. Through her dance experiences, Annemarie has learned how to express herself in unique and creative ways. Annemarie hopes to inspire young children to use their imagination; so that their overall vocabulary and communication skills are enhanced. Creativity encourages children to explore, experiment, and think outside the box. This lays the foundation for lifelong learning, and creating future leaders. By nurturing creativity in childhood, it prepares children to thrive in an uncertain future. In addition, Annemarie’s book is in English and Spanish. Annemarie hopes to promote children’s literacy through books. When it comes to imagination, there are no limits – every story has the power to open new worlds and inspire limitless possibilities.

About the Creator

Annemarie is from Arlington, Virginia and just graduated from the University of Virginia majoring in American Politics with a minor in Dance. Having a mother who is Peruvian and a father who is Irish led her to starting Peruvian Dance at the age of four and Irish Dance at the age of five. Since then, she has performed and competed up and down the East Coast of the USA. Some of the performances included dancing in parades, festivals, and governmental events. Early into her dancing, she started competing in dance competitions and has earned high ranked levels in both dances. She uses her book to further promote her literacy platform, “Dancing Through Words” and inspire the next generation of future writers to write their own stories.
